Non-Traditional Services

Non-Traditional services are likely to be where the Port Authority assists other political sub-divisions or agencies such as administrative offices that could be shared across two different political subdivisions, garages for fire departments or emergency services groups servicing to separate townships.

Non-traditional services can involve the Wood County Port Authority working with State Agencies and Cities to make improvements in their community. They also involve infrastructure improvements similar to what the Wood County Port Authority was able to do for the City of Rossford. In Rossford the Wood County Port Authority coordinated the Ohio Rail Commission, the Ohio Department of Transportation and the contractors. The Port Authority assisted by helping put together the right partners to help improve the rail / traffic interface at the Eastern entrance to the City of Rossford.

Port Authorities can provide leadership, again as it did in Rossford, in converting properties which have been abandoned into tax generating property.

Non-Traditional services also involve creating, supporting and providing leadership of other entities such as: the “Chessie Circle Trail Committee” and the “Cultural Arts Fund of Wood County”. The Wood County Port Authority helps in these situations because often times economic development is viewed in a vacuum that involve state incentives, job grants, and workforce development.  Beyond these key financial targets there are softer objectives that deal with people, safety, standard of living, and quality of life.  Often these softer objectives are the X-factor that speaks to providing cultural arts for the families living within the county.  The Wood County Port Authority feels it is important to fund an entity where we can help to provide leadership, guidance and a clearing house for financial support for a variety of Wood County wide culture events.

The Non-Traditional services which the Port Authority provide have an immediate impact on communities within our boundary.
