Rich Martinko, working on behalf of the Wood County Port Authority as Project Director, and the consortium of partners that included the Wood County Engineer, the Wood County Economic Development Commission, the City of Rossford, the Rossford School District, and Perrysburg Township, presented a safety application to the ODOT Highway Safety Team on Friday, October 11, 2019. Rex Huffman, Executive Director of the Port Authority, noted that we could not have anyone better, in his opinion, making the presentation on behalf of a great collection of partners on this safety application requesting funding for improving the intersection of State Route 795 and Lime City Road (CR-9).
The Wood County Port Authority along with its consortium of partners has recognized the impact on traffic and safety on the intersection of State Route 795 and Lime City Road as a result of the Amazon Capital Investment of $253 million and 1000 new full-time jobs. An investment by the State of nearly $2 million dollars in turn lane, signal improvement and right of way acquisitions is being planned for the Crossroads area. The increased traffic in the Crossroads and on State Route 795 will have a negative impact on people traveling through the intersection of state route 795 and Lime City Road which already has a safety record that is 25% worse than the expected State average.
The Wood County Port Authority and the Wood County Engineer are pledging support for 20% of the projected costs for improving the Safety performance of this intersection. Other Local stakeholders, along with ODOT, are being asked to help fund other safety initiatives in the area. Wood County Port Authority and its consortium members believe this is a first key piece, and one which is central to the State Route 795 Master Plan which will impact all roads touching the 795 corridors.
