Rubber Maid – Caphalon
Road Improvement, ODOT Funding, Section 629 Funding, Project Facilitation, Ground Lease, Bond Financing, Distribution, Plants-Manufacturing
September 2012 – November 2012
Project Overview
The Newell Rubbermaid distribution and manufacturing facility in Middleton Township proved to be another success for the Wood County Port Authority. Newell Rubbermaid chose to plant roots in Northwest Ohio because of the region’s trained and skilled workforce in manufacturing.
The 363,000 square foot distribution facility in Middleton Township, at SR 25 south of SR 582, produces Calphalon products. Calphalon is a worldwide leader in the manufacturing of high-end cookware, cutlery, baking utensils, and kitchen accessories and additions. The Bond financed / ground lease investment required for this facility was $20 million. This state-of-the-art distribution facility supports manufacturing and distribution operations located in Perrysburg Township. The current facility has 295 employees and created about 33 jobs. Due to the success of the current facility, Calphalon’s developer, Insite Real Estate Investment Properties, LLC, has plans for a second building at the same site which will be constructed when tenant commitments are collected.
The Port Authority’s ability to own, lease, and finance land, buildings, and equipment made the distribution center a reality. For almost 80 years, Rubbermaid has created innovative products at the highest quality ranging from home and garden to seasonal or commercial products. Newell Brands Inc was created in 1999 to be a competitive consumer goods company with market-leading brands and a focus on innovation. At the heart of Newell Brands is investing in the community, which is a key part of Wood County Port Authority’s mission in Wood County.
