NSG Glass of North America Inc. Plant in Troy Township, Wood County Ohio

Road Improvement, ODOT funding, Section 629 funding, Ground Lease

October 2018 – Fall of 2020

Project Overview

NSG Group (NSG) announced in the fall of 2018 that it was planning to invest $265,000,000 in building its first new float glass plant in the United States since 1980. The Plant will be 511,000 square feet and located in Troy Township, Wood County, Ohio. NSG and the Wood County Port Authority, as well as the Wood County Economic Development Council started working with NSG in early 2018. The creation of this project is closely tied to the First Solar expansion just 10 miles North and West on Tracey Road in Perrysburg Township, Wood County, Ohio. The First Solar project was another recent project by the Wood County Port Authority.

The new plant will make specialty sheet glass using its advanced online coating technology for the solar panel manufacturing plant of First Solar. Its location in Troy Township is ideal as it is tied closely to the existing power facility of Troy Energy LLC, close to a major substation for electrical power as well as being on a major rail line. Rail was an important aspect of NSG choosing this site over locations being offered in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky because many of the raw materials to make the 600 tons per day of specially coated glass requires the rail hauling of raw materials efficiently into the site.

The plant under construction which is shown in the photo to the left will create 110 hourly jobs and about 40 salaried positions.

The Troy Township NSG facility when it opens, will differ from the nearby Rossford plant in a very important way — the ability to make transparent conductive oxide glass, or “TCO.” First Solar’s new facility on Tracey Road will use the specially coated glass for its new and more powerful Series 6 solar panels.

In addition to helping facilitate NSG’s purchase and construction of its new Plant, the Wood County Port Authority was also involved with the Wood County Economic Development Council in securing the Ohio Development and Services Agency ‘629’ Grant to be used for the improvements to Pemberville road and the entrance to the plant.
